most of us are faced with the same dilemma during the holidays... we want to give gifts to EVERYONE but have a limited budget. here is how i solved that problem this year. (kind of, i only wish i would have made more!)
first of all, if you haven't heard of moo mini cards, let me fill you in. they are super cute little 1 1/8" x 2 3/4" cards that you can have printed up with whatever you want. a pack of 100 is only $20, and you can have the same print on each one, make them all different, or any combination in between! uploading your images to the site is simple if you have a flickr account. they arrive within about a week in a pretty little box like this:
ok, so here's what you do!
1. use pictures you have of your friends or steal some off of their flickr or facebook accounts and upload them onto flickr. i use flickr uploader and it's so easy. (download it here.)
2. go to moo.com and have them turned into moo mini cards.
3. get some adhesive backed magnet tape (?) from the craft store and cut it into small squares. you need 2 squares per card.
4. stick the magnets to the back of the cards, one on each side.
(you can have stuff printed on the back of your cards, too!)
5. package them up and give them to all your friends!
there you have it, super cute personalized gifts for less than $5 per person! (assuming you made 10 magnets per gift)
it would probably be cutting it pretty close to have these things ready in time for christmas; sorry i couldn't post this tutorial until after i gave these to my friends! but you could use this idea for literally any occasion. birthday presents, birth announcements, save the dates, or just because... you name it!
i LOVE these little cards because they are so adorable and versatile. my fridge is covered with these magnets, i've used them as business cards and gift tags.. i mean the possibilities are endless. for other people who love these things as much as i do, i sell these cute little decorated tins in my shop (which i just put on vacation mode until december 28th, sorry) that can carry around 10 cards at a time. they are only $5 and super cute, too. another great gift option :)
for those of you who have never made moo mini cards before, you can use this code to receive 15% off your first order: 2RB2CK (got a little coupon with my last order, just thought i'd share, hopefully it works fore everyone!) try them out and let me see what you make!

i saw this plate on weheartit, followed the link to the blog ninainvorm, and found myself in a world full of completely adorable hand screen printed "re-decorated" ceramics
you can check the ninainvorm etsy site right here, or by clicking any of the photos above. her flickr is also loaded with pretty eye candy, especially her set "making the house a home."
ps. it took me 2 days to write this blog. every time i sat down at the computer, the little girl needed to be tended to! and tonight when i finally had time, typepad was acting wacky. so frustrated right now!

if you remember, i used to think the whole twilight obsession thing was ridiculous, until my friend shaz paid for me to go see twilight with her and i bought all the books. now i'm freaking out with new moon fever! i thought it would be funny to design my own twilight tshirt and have greg print them for some of my friends and i to wear to the premiere. we are going to the midnight showing on thursday night and we might as well geek it up as much as possible! every thursday night we have friends over for dinner, and then usually watch the office after that. this week we are pregaming by viewing twilight on blu-ray instead!
while i was designing the shirt, giddy with excitement, greg looked at me very seriously and said "lindsay, i mean this in the nicest way possible. you are a total nerd." i got so excited that i actually exclaimed "EEEEEEEEE!!!" something i don't think i've ever done before.
yes, team edward AND team jacob. (CONTROVERSIAL, i know!) i posted this on facebook and then some people wanted to know if i was selling them so i put it up for sale on etsy. we'll see if i sell any, but i'm not sure how many people are on both teams :)

i ordered some new beads and made some earrings! :)
i love making earrings. i make necklaces sometimes, too, but earrings are just so fun. especially whimsy ones :) what i definitely don't like is photographing jewelry. it gives me a headache because the pictures always look like crap. i need to make a light box...

i have signed up (again) to participate in the etsy traveling art journal... a collaborative mail-art project. (i actually signed up last year, but things got messed up i guess and they are starting it up again) basically, there are 8 books that are mailed out to different participants. when you receive the book, you have 1 week to decorate 2 assigned pages however you want, and then you mail it on to the next person. once all the pages are filled, the book may be displayed at the etsylabs in new york city!
you can see how some people have decorated their pages at the etsyjournal flickr group, and keep track of the journals on the etsyjournal blog.
i have no idea how i'm going to decorate my pages, but i'm so excited, i can't wait until i get the book! it reminds me of a journal my friend and i used to keep in high school. we went to different schools and would pass it back and forth each time we saw each other. it was FULL of notes and doodles and secrets and stuff. i bet it would be so soooooo embarrassing / hilarious to read now. ha! :) man, i want to do that again. i hardly ever write or doodle or anything anymore, and my handwriting and drawing skills are going down the tubes...
anyway, if this sounds like something you would be interested in, i don't think it's too late to sign up! you can read more about it on the etsy traveling journal forum thread. i'll let you know when i get my book! <3
